Thesaurus Payroll is a payroll package based in Ireland, which is fully compliant with all Irish Payroll legislation & Irish Employment Law. Including the most recent PAYE Modernisation introduced by Revenue in January 2019.
The package allows for unlimited amounts of employees and can manage weekly, fortnightly or monthly payroll. It can also track holidays and all PAYE Revenue payments.
Payslips can be printed or emailed as pdf to employer and/or employee directly (with or without password protection). Processing payroll in this manner reduces paperwork in the business. There is also an option of an Irish Language payslip should this be relevant to you or your employees.
Reports can be printed or produced in pdf or excel format – whichever is most convenient for the business. They can also be calculated on a payroll run i.e. Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly or by Tax Month if required, as well as being password protected. Reports can be exported in excel format to Sage Line 50, Quickbooks and Xero.
You can add/amend employees can be added manually or by downloading the Revenue Payroll Notification RPN. New Payrolls can be set up in the same manner or from another payroll provider.
BIK & Pension
Additional items such as BIK calculations or Pension (EE and ER) are easily added/amended/removed from the employee. All taxable and non-taxable additions and deduction can be included with ease. And Gift Card integration is included.

Is Thesaurus Payroll compliant with GDPR and PAYE Modernisation? Is Thesaurus Payroll compliant with GDPR and PAYE Modernisation?
Thesaurus is fully compliant with GDPR and with Revenue’s PAYE Modernisation. In fact, Thesaurus undertook a full review how they obtain, maintain and use data to ensure it is fully compliant and full details are available on their website.
They also have regular updates to their system, and you will be automatically notified when you open Thesaurus when and update is available. These updates are included in your initial payment so not further costs are involved.
I have just found a mistake in the payroll how do I fix it?
The first thing you need to do with “Follow The Money” which means that if you made an error in a previous payroll but the correct amount was paid, you need to go back to fix the previous period in the next payroll you perform.
But if you have paid the employee a different amount to what is in the payroll system you need to submit a “Correction Submission” to Revenue. The full details of how to do this are available on the Thesaurus Website.
I have an employee leaving, what do I do in the payroll system?
A P45 is no longer issued to employees. Instead you fill in the Leave Date for the employee in Thesaurus after all final payments are made to the employee.
Then when you file the Payroll Submission Request to Revenue, it will include the leave date and Revenue will reflect this in their records. The new employer will then be able to download the Tax Credits, etc for that employee.
How do I get payslips to employees?
Probably the most convenient way for you and your employee is to email them a pdf copy of the payslip as you run the payroll directly from Thesaurus. Then the employee can file it for future use.
However, you do have the option to print the payslips in the following formats:
2 per page (High Resolution)
2 per page (Low Resolution)
Irish Language Payslip
So, whichever is most convenient for you.
If I am going on holidays, can I run the payroll in advance?
Yes, you can process before you go but make sure that you use the Revenue Payroll Notification (RPN) available at the time you are running the payroll. But Remember to also send the Payroll Submission Request (PSR) to Revenue before you go too.
If I get a new PC, can I move Thesaurus over to the new PC or do I need to purchase a new copy of Thesaurus?
Yes, this is not an issue. There are two methods:
Transfer using the installation folder
Transfer using backup file
Both methods have full instructions available on the Thesaurus website
If I have a problem running something unusual through the payroll, how do I get help?
This is easy. Firstly, the Thesaurus website has very details instructions on how to do almost everything in Thesaurus under their Help Section – this also has a very good Search Facility to find your issue easily.
But if you cannot find what you are looking for, the Thesaurus Helpline (based in Ashbourne Co Meath is excellent and can be reached by phone on 01-8352074 or email email@example.com.
How do I save my payroll to ensure that I don’t lose all the information?
We would highly recommend that you take a backup to an external drive (not your C drive on your computer) to protect your information. You can backup to an external directory, a CD or to Dropbox for example.
Full step by step instructions on all these methods are available on the Thesaurus Website under the Help Menu/Backup and Restore.
Our Accountants/Auditors are looking for Reports of the payroll for the first 6 months of the year, how do I get this?
Thesaurus lets you run various types of reports with various information for various periods and it can be printed or emailed in excel or html format – so whatever format your Accountant/Auditor requires.
Examples are Payroll Summary/Audit Trail, Tax Details Reports, Pensions, Additions & Deductions and other Adhoc Reports as required.
Can I send a file from Thesaurus to my bank to pay employees rather than manually processing each payment?
Yes, for employees that you pay by Credit Transfer, you can create a Bank Payment File and upload it to your banking software. You can do it by Bank Payment File (SEPA) to an Irish Bank Account or Non-Irish Bank Account or by using Bankline which is specifically an Ulster Bank Software file.
Remember you will need to obtain an OIN Number from your bank to allow you to create the Bank Payment File. This is obtained on completion of registering with your bank to transmit credit transfer files to payment of wages.
